SULFACETAMIDE is a sulfonamide antibiotic. It is used to treats minor skin infections. It also helps certain skin conditions like seborrhea. This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.

What should I tell my health care providers before I take this medicine? (Back to top)
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

• large areas of damaged skin
• an unusual or allergic reaction to sulfacetamide, sulfa drugs, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
• pregnant or trying to get pregnant
• breast-feeding

How should I use this medicine? (Back to top)
This medicine is for external use only. Do not take by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Wash hands before and after use. Wet skin and liberally apply to areas to be cleansed. Massage gently into the skin working into a full lather, then rinse thoroughly with plain water and pat dry. It is not necessary to use regular shampoo after every application, but the hair should be shampooed at least once a week. Do not get this medicine in your eyes. If you do, rinse out with plenty of cool tap water. Use your doses at regular intervals. Do not use your medicine more often than directed. Finish the full course prescribed by your doctor or health care professional even if you think your condition is better.

Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.

Note: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, use only that dose. Do not use double or extra doses.

• fever
• joint pains
• skin rash, redness, blistering, peeling of skin or mouth or other areas
• sore mouth or mouth ulcers
• unusually weak or tired

• mild skin irritation or dryness

Tell your doctor or health care professional if your symptoms do not improve in 2 to 3 days.

If you get any sign of an allergic reaction, stop using this medicine and call your doctor or health care professional.

The color of this medicine may darken over time. This does not affect the way the medicine works or its safety. This medicine may cause yellow discoloration if it comes in contact with white fabric. This discoloration may be easily removed by laundering the fabric without bleach.

Keep out of the reach of children.

Store at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). Do not freeze. Keep away from heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
